2014 was a year of change

22-12-2014 4 responses flinden68 business community

It is the time of the year to reflect the ending year. 2014ย was a year of change in my professional life.

Thanks

I finally made the step to leave e-office and move on to start my own business as Freelance Java/Web and XPages developer. It took some time to take the step, but after talking to lots of people inside and outside the ICS Community it was clear to me and my wife to take the deep dive.

I want thanksย Bruce Elgort, Sandra Buhler, Stefan Sucker, Femke Goedhart, Stuart McIntyre, Sasja Beerendonk and many more for the time to make my next steps clear to me.

Q4

The last quarter of 2014 was a very busy one for me. I was almost fully booked as a Java developer at Delta Lloyd a big insurance company in the Netherlands. Next to this project I did some smaller XPages, Widgets for IBM Connections and Quickr projects.

2015

The first quarter looks very promising. till end of March I will be fully booked, 5 days a week, so it seems. The market in the Netherlands is for Java/J2EE developers very bright. Lots of very long running projects. Good for me.

My feeling telling me I will be in mix mode during 2015, Java/J2EE development mixed with some smaller XPages and IBM Connections projects. But you will never know. After Q1 the world can be very different. I will keep my eyes and ears open for nice opportunities, no matter where, inside or outside the ICS Community.

I have been registered for Engage in Ghent, I also submitted an abstract, so I can get a recap of IBM ConnectED, which I will not attend this time.

in the end…

Till now I am very happy that I took the step. In control of everything gives me energy and a good feeling of freedom. Enjoying life more and more. Planned also already another Trailrunning adventure mid June 2015 around the Zugspitze in Germany. 36 kilometer of Trailrunning through a very nice scenery.

The future looks very bright and looking forward to enjoy it 100%.

I also looking forward to meet you in real life. BTW I also submit an abstract for the ICS Usergroup in Bremen. Of course I don’t want forget the ICS Community, but I am not stuck totally to that community, as there are so many other ways to earn a decent living. As the US people saying, ‘follow the money’ ๐Ÿ˜‰
