This month I had some interviews for new Java projects and I noticed when you start about Notes and Domino the first reaction is of ‘is this still around…….’.
I thought what is the reason of this reaction?? Most it comes for not knowing the real power of the new Development platform created by IBM, XPages.
At BlueMix they avoid the name of NSF and the call it a NoSQL database, which it is of course. IBM has done an amazing job on the JSF engine under the hood of the Domino server. Don’t let you fool about the version. Currently it is 1.2, but it is highly optimised and there are lots of goodies added which are currently not implemented at the last version of JSF, 2.2. For example, partial refresh we take for granted at XPages Development, but I discovered the hard way that in 2.2 it is not yet there. So there was the need of PrimeFaces framework to achieve this.
In my last interviews I start not talking about Notes and Domino anymore, but about NoSQL and JSF framework, and the reaction was much more positive.
Thinking that way and LEARNING JAVA it opens new opportunities, I discovered.
